Here's a question for you. If you have the time and money to work for one long drive in all the continents of the planet, what would you choose and where would you go? I ask this question because time and money to stop the only things that many people from companies to be their ultimate dream vacation seem.

Road Trip USA

Last year(March 2008), according to a survey by the Australian automotive car site online instructions to hit the road on the Aussies love. In fact, the survey of 810 respondents showed a huge 99 per cent of Australians would be allowed to go on a journey through the freedom and spontaneity.

Not long after the poll appeared Car Guide, a Rand McNally survey (May 2008), the American attitude was to test a long road sections similar views on this type of holiday. After the frontMcNally survey (of 2,030 American adults), three out of four adults (75%) were taking at least some chance of travel, and about three in ten (29%) said they were very likely.

Meanwhile, an article reported in the online edition of The Wall Street Journal (May 2009) published that the road trip was willing to make a comeback began when the American summer tourist season, despite the recession continues and the price of fuel.

While the costs for fuel and lodging have been appointedas the two biggest concerns, both in Australia and America, it seems our mutual love for the open road does not tend to diminish any time soon.

Which brings me to Road Trip USA.

Jamie Jensen's best-selling guide, Road Trip USA: Cross-Country Adventures on America, two-lane highways (Fifth Edition, Avalon Travel, 2009) guides you through the real America as you are closing forever.

With 11 tours to choose from, for classic American landscapes asas the Appalachian Trail, Atlantic Coast, Oregon Trail and the famous Route 66 Road Trip USA road checks fearless warrior through big cities like San Francisco and Chicago, and at a distance, but fascinating all-American cities such as Dubuque, Mississippi (where the baseball field for the films of Kevin Costner's Field of Dreams has created draws visitors from) near and far, or the small blue-collar town of Seneca Falls in upstate New York (the birth of the American women's movement has seen in July1848).

As you might expect, the routes also lead Jensen to popular destinations such as Disneyland, Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls and the Statue of Liberty. Complete with local traditions, bizarre curiosities (Memphis gifts to American culture - and the world - even to the supermarket, the drive-in restaurant, the Holiday Inn, oh, and Elvis Presley). Full of great details and curiosities on the roadside (a character in Texas is the command: "Get out here Rattlesnakes"), Road TripUSA contains a large number of recommendations on where to stay, what to see and where to eat and sleep. This is a guide to get the passengers from the highway system, and drive into the heart and soul of America.

Other features of this edition are:

o A flexible network of route combinations, extensively cross-referenced colors and to allow hundreds of possible routes
o More than 125 detailed maps
or full-color interior with modern and vintagePhotos and illustrations
A section or Roadtrip resources with contact information to populate the motel and hotel chains, car rental companies, state tourist offices, centers and road conditions

My personal criteria for a good guide is to explain that being informed, and sometimes even be surprised, as I say, that the Road Trip USA has no problems to be informative, insightful, and yes, even surprising.

I have no hesitation in saying that if I commit my wayTravel across America, this is the only book that I have at my side at all times.

What is missing?
Road Trip USA is, unfortunately, almost completely devoid of links to online resources. At a time when almost every piece of printed paper has a website URL and e-mail on it somewhere, and when so many modern electronic devices are used to provide Internet, this seems to be a glaring omission. I can only assume this is a conscious decision by the author and publisher. With thousands ofPlaces of interest in the book in detail, you can try and the decision to reduce the visual clutter associated with URLs, and make the content more "readable", they removed to avoid completely.

Although not envisaged, a URL or e-mail address for each site indicated in the Road Trip USA, to the main attractions certainly responsible for the insertion of a web link (if available). A quick look through the other guides on my shelf all show, the last of the press5 years or so, are web addresses and in future issues of Road Trip USA would do well to do the same.

Before leaving
Road Trip USA I think would also benefit section covers basic information on the preparations for the journey "Before you go, 'This chapter could include subjects such as.:

or useful (and offline) sources of information about travel arrangements.
or information security (personnel, vehicles break down and the safety of othersQuestions)
o What to do in an emergency to do is (breakdowns, accidents, personal attacks, etc.)
or grab a list of possible entries and prepare
o A list of pre-trip vehicle (control brakes, tires and engine, etc.) the preparations
° In traveling with children and pets

Road Trip USA is a scarce resource section expires at the end of the book, only eight and a half pages - four of which contains a list of recommended reading. Others refer to related organizations in any waywith cars and highways, a short list of hotel / motel chains and car rental companies and a list of U.S. and Canadian authorities are engaged in tourism status and conditions of the road. And that's pretty much all.

The good news is that the omission does not in any way to diminish the overall depth and quality of information provided in Road Trip USA. With just over 900 pages, I think it's fair to say that Road Trip USA covers all the 'basics' and then some. In fact, Iwithout hesitation say that if you really my journey across America to get through, the book Road Trip USA is what I have at my side at all times.
